Mould poisoning ruined my health (Mould and MCAS)

Yes, it’s a very real condition. Whether you call it mould poisoning, or something else, mould is literally toxic, and in some people it can trigger very strong immune reactions.

I’m not a doctor, but I’ve spoken to many doctors about my condition. The effects of prolonged exposure to mould are well-known enough to be recognised and seen in many patients, but not that well-known that medical professionals totally understand what’s happening, and the full effects or treatment.

Awaab’s law was introduced in February 2023, after a two year old boy, Awaab Ishak was killed by living in a mouldy council flat in Rochdale, England. It was the first legal case of its kind — a breakthrough for individuals living in mouldy rentals — as his cause of death was specified as mould. A devastatingly high price for Awaab and his family, who have since campaigned for the introduction of this new law. The law now means that landlords must follow specific deadlines after tenants report a hazard in a property — such as mould.

This law came into place one month after I’d moved out of the flat that has permanently damaged my health.

While I’m lucky enough to have been able to get out of the situation, unlike Awaab’s tragic situation, it was a struggle, and has left me permanently ill.
